No Metal Gear Rising on Vita due to Power Concerns

Platinum Games' hack and slash spin-off, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, won't be appearing on Playstation Vita due to worries about the console's power.

Kojima Productions creative producer Yuji Korekado told Eurogamer that there were reservations over whether Sony's handheld would be able to cope with the game's free cutting system, which allows players to slice enemies anyway they choose.

"As of now we aren't considering a Vita version," he said. "The reason is one of the main appeals of Metal Gear Rising is this option of the free cut. That requires a lot of hardware power, which is only possible with the power of a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

"So as of now, we haven't contemplated bringing it to handheld consoles."

The free cut mechanic is set to be an integral part of the game, with challenges being included that task players to be selective in how they incapacitate enemies.

Korekado explained, "We know some previous Metal Gear titles there have been some challenges, like having no kills, complete stealth. We are putting challenges in the game. For example, there is one challenge where you have to go through the game just by defeating the enemies dealing the least amount of damage possible, perhaps by cutting just one limb."

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is due to release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on February 19 in America, February 21 in Europe and February 22 in the UK.
