StarCraft II: Aussie WCS Tournament Kicks Off Today

Sydney is playing host to a huge StarCraft II tournament this weekend. Yes, it's the StarCraft II World Championship Series Australia Nationals and Oceania Finals.

The Australia Nationals kick off today, Friday the 10th of August, and runs for two days. 16 of the nation's top StarCraft II players will compete for their share of a $10,000 USD total prize pool. The 16 players nabbed their spots through the WCS Australia Qualifier tournaments, and will compete in a double elimination tournament. The top six will meet the two top New Zealand players in the WCS Oceania Finals on Sunday, August 12.

The Oceania Finals have a total prize pool of $15,000 USD, and will be an eight-player double elimination tournament. The top two players will go on to the WCS Global Finals, which will take place during the upcoming Battle.net World Championship in Shanghai, China on November 17-18.

Fans of eSports will be excited to hear that the tournament will feature commentary from international casting duos Nick ‘Tasteless’ Plott and Dan ‘Artosis’ Stemkoski, and Alex ‘HDstarcraft’ Do and Taylor ‘PainUser’ Parsons. Local MC, Leigh ‘Maynarde’ Mandalov will host the event. Those that missed out on free tickets for the live event - or live outside Sydney - can watch the live stream here:
