Valve has announced new upgrades and a new map called Coal Town for Team Fortress 2. Coming alongside the game’s recently announced co-op mode, Coal Town puts players in a town built by the Mann Mining Company, which is being invaded by the robots players will be fighting against.
Alongside the new map, Valve also revealed new upgrades. Each time a player kills a robot, they’ll earn money that they can redeem at an Upgrade Station between waves. Stations will offer canteens including Ubercharge (five seconds of invincibility), Critical Hit Boost (full critical hit power for five seconds), Ammo/Clip refills, Buildings upgrades and Return to Base, which will send players back to the respawn room and give them a temporary speed boost.
Each of the game’s classes will also have upgrades available. The Soldier will be able to receive an Upgraded Buff Banner and upgraded rocket launcher (boosting damage, firing speed, reload speed and projectile speed). Medics can get medigun or Kritzkrieg upgrades that boost overhaul amount and duration. Medics will also be able to increase ubercharge’s build rate and lengthen its duration, plus share the effects of canteens with heal targets. The Heavy will be able to get upgraded rounds that pass through multiple targets, an upgraded minigun that can shoot down projectiles and Rage, which will cause rounds to knock back enemies.
The Scout can get upgraded Mad Milk that will slow enemies, plus an extra large cash collection radius, health boosts from cash and instant respawns. The Demoman can use a Critical Hit Boost canteen to lay sticky traps or instantly destroy most targets with an upgraded sticky bomb. Engineers can upgrade to build a second mini-sentry or temporarily boost sentry gun firing speeds by three times using a Critical Hit Boost canteen. Snipers can slow enemies with an upgraded Jarate, upgrade sniper rounds to pass through multiple targets, combine Jarate with the bleed effect of rounds and arrows to take down large enemies and can score explosive headshots with an upgraded sniper rifle or Huntsman.
Pyros can upgrade airblast to push targets further and can separate medic robots from their targets. They can also push bomb-carrying robots into mineshafts and upgrade the flare gun into a long-range weapon. Finally, the Spy can upgrade the sapper to disable regular robots or slow giant enemies. His disguise will fool all robots (unless he’s on fire) and an upgraded knife an penetrate robot armor, allowing him to cause more damage to giants.
Team Fortress 2’s co-op update is set to be released later today.
