Valve Releases Steam Community Beta Details

Valve has revealed another new feature for the Steam Community, plus details on how to get an invite for the Community beta. Steam will add a new Friend Activity stream that allows you to see what your friends are up to. The new page will let you post status updates, nickname friends and more, with functionality similar to Facebook’s News Feed.

The Friends page joins the new Game Hubs and updated Groups that were announced earlier this week. While Valve is done announcing new features for now, it has announced a beta that will allow 50,000 players to be the first to try out the Community’s new upgrades.

According to Valve, “two beta invites each are going out now to the first 50,000 recipients of the Pillar of the Steam Community badge. More invites will go out daily until we end the beta period and turn it live for everyone.”

Even if you don’t get into the beta, test versions of some features are available now, including the new Team Fortress 2 Game Hub and Steam Community beta group. Users can also leave comments about the new features on the Beta Group discussions page.
