It was a weird E3 this year. After abundant rumours of new consoles and unannounced games, the actual show fell a bit flat when barely anything new was shown. Thankfully Gamescom hasn't got such fevered expectations to live up to; we know for sure that nobody's announcing any new consoles, focussing instead on getting the big games of the next 6 months out in front of the 250,000-odd gamers who typically attend the show.
That doesn't mean there's no excitement, though! We know there are at least three unannounced games due to be revealed, and there'll be hundreds of games on the show floor. Here's a rundown of what to expect, and how you can keep up.
We'll be updating our Gamescom hub with all the news and impressions as soon as the show starts.
At 11am in Germany (10am UK, 1am PT and 7pm for Australia) on the 14th, Capcom will announce Something Big, and will almost certainly show more on Resident Evil 6, Lost Planet 3 and more.
This one's happening at 4pm CEST on the 14th (3pm UK, 6am PT and 12 midnight in Australia). We're not certain what to expect from EA, but expect big focus on the sports titles most relevant to the European audience (so, FIFA), and we're sure to see more of the publisher's upcoming Medal of Honor, SimCity, Need for Speed and Crysis games. EA will also be streaming this live, and we'll have it right here on the site.
Taking place at 7pm in Cologne (that's 6pm in the UK, 10am PT and 3AM the next day for Australia), the Sony press conference will take place the day before the show on Tuesday 14th August. We know NOT to expect an announcement of the all-but-confirmed remodelled PS3 Super-Slim, which Sony has stated will miss the show. However, there are two unannounced games to look forward to, according to reports, one purportedly from Studio Japan. Plus, there's sure to be some Vita games. SURELY.
Sony is streaming its conference live, so we'll have it on the site for you to watch. Keep an eye out on the day for the story.
What's Ubisoft got to show on the first day of the show (August 15th, 3pm Germany/2pm UK/5am PT/11pm Australia)? Not Watch Dogs, sadly - the word on the street is that it will be focussing on free-to-play and e-sports. Hopefully we won't have another vaguely embarrassing Shootmania demonstration, although if we do, I dearly hope both genders will be in hotpants this time.
Next, the games!
